Balusters and Newels are the posts that support railings. Each baluster design includes proportioned, classically ordered components, plain top shafts, carved columns and plain bases. Columns are fluted and foliated and sit atop the simpler undecorated base. Our Newels -- normally the focal point of a stair or balustrade -- are designed to complement the baluster for the final enhancement of the stair. The Newels have a carved finial termination.

In the true sense historically, a Finial is the knot or foliated ornament in Gothic architecture that forms the upper extremity of a pinnacle, often a foliated fleur-de-lis. In Middle English language (from about 1100 to 1500) 'finial' is a variant of the word 'final,' hence the crowning nature of this element. In ornamental decoration, our Finials are the terminating components for posts and railings and ends of horizontal rods.
